Your oil matters – Synthetic oil

Your oil matters – Synthetic oil

We are in the age of technology. Humanity, in just a few short decades, has achieved advances that could not have been imagined in past centuries and motor oils have not been left behind in this revolution.

The era of conventional oils

According to studies, the use of oil dates back over 4,000 years. The Ancient Egyptians used lubricants of different types to maintain their carriages.

In the twentieth century, with the boom of personal vehicles, petroleum-based oil was popularized mainly because of its versatility.

However, it had some flaws. For example, conventional oils couldn’t adapt their viscosity depending on the engine’s temperature without additives. On top of that, these mineral-based oils began to break down easily when exposed to extreme climates with really high or low temperatures.

That’s why it was necessary to put in lot of additives to stabilize conventional oils and prepare them for regular use.

The synthetic evolution

Even with the additives, conventional oils still had issues such as degradation over time. These issues led to the search for a new generation of lubricant: synthetic oils.

Based on artificial polymers, this type of oil was designed with overcoming all the previous issues in mind.

That’s why synthetic oil has a large amount of advantages over conventional:

  • Better viscosity index and performance at extreme temperatures
  • Increased chemical stability
  • Less evaporation
  • Better resistance to ash, oxidation, thermal breakdown and oil sludge
  • Better lubrication, resulting in a more fuel-efficient engine and an increase in horsepower

With this in mind, have you already decided which type of oil you will use the next time you do an oil change?
